Visit to Droitwich Spa High School, Worcestershire, UK

Two teachers Ms A Gilani and Ms Anu Misra along with four students Anajni Monga, Aman Jugran, Abhay Vats and Lavanya Bhardwaj went to Droitwich Spa High School, U K from 16th March 2010 to 24th March 2010 for the school exchange program. They were hosted by the students and teachers of the school. Staff and the students got exposure to their style of teaching and learning, sports and culture. It was an exciting and enriching experience for them.

 

Students interaction with the Chief Minister , Ms.Sheila Dixit

Students of Ramjas School , R.K.Puram , Sector-IV met the Chief Minister Smt.Sheila Dixit in connection with their Civic Education project on the harmful effects of the use of plastic. In the course of her interaction with the children the Chief Minister explained that littering of plastic bags not only makes the surrounding filthy, but also pollutes the environment . She added since plastic bags do not undergo any natural destruction , they affect the fertility of soil and their yield. Plastic bags choke the drain pipes and cause floods during the rainy season . This in turn results in spreading of water borne diseases and traffic blockade during rainy season .This made the Government to enact a law to ban the use of plastic bags and impose a fine upto 1 lakh and/or imprisonment for defying such ban. She advised children that they should maintain a healthy environment for developing a healthy mind.

 

Organ Donation Campaign (Project Citizen)

Students of class IX of Ramjas School, R.K.Puram working on "Project Citizen", a civic education programme have taken up Organ Donation as their topic because they believe that it means gifting a life. They visited ORBO department in AIIMS and submitted 40 forms there. They also met Mrs. Arti Mehra, ex-Mayor of Delhi and listened to her views on organ donation . They went to many residences in Sector IV , R.K.Puram to know the views of the people and were glad to know that most people agreed to donate their organs. Doctors from Venu Eye Hospital came to the school and enlightened the group on eye transplants. The children distributed many forms to the parents during the PTM in school .

The group strongly believes that if everyone pledges to donate organs one can certainly end the problem of organ shortfall. Through this project we at Ramjas, R.K.Puram are teaching values, compassion and sensitivity towards social issues to the youth of our country.

 

Teachers Excellence Award to Mrs. Seema Kapur

Mrs.Seema Kapur , HOD Social Sciences of Ramjas School , R.K.Puram was awarded the Teachers Excellence Award 2009 by the Lions Club of Delhi (District 321-AI) in due recognition of the exemplary services rendered in the field of education , which goes beyond the normal course of duty and are instrumental towards the development of the future citizens of India.

 

School adopts a Girl Child, Sonia

The members of Intercat Club of Ramjas School , R.K.Puram visited Deepalaya , an NGO working towards the betterment of underprivileged children . The school has adopted a Girl child named Sonia who is a student of Ramditti Junior Narang Deepalaya School. The interact club donated a sum of Rs.7000/- to the Head of the school. The club has made this an ongoing project to take care of Sonia’s education till Class XII.

 

PROJECT CITIZEN INDIA – SHOWCASING 2009

Project Citizen India  National showcasing was held on 22nd & 23rd October 2009. On October 22nd 2009, about 30 schools participated at Ramjas School , R.K.Puram  in an Inter school competition  on various  projects they  have taken up during the year. On October 23rd 2009, the valedictory function was held  at PHD House , Sri Fort Road , New Delhi  where students were honoured with certificates and trophies. The Chief Guest for the occasion was Patricia Clarke Annez , Research Director and NRI Fellow at Brookings Institution . 

A delegation from USA comprising of Arlene Benitez from University of Indiana, Phyllis Bowie , trainer from the Centre for Civic Education , California and Eric Steele from the Lawyers Association , Indiana  were also present at the showcasing .  

In addition to the showcasing, on 25th October 2009 a workshop  was held on an Action Research project undertaken by four schools on Project  Citizen  India. From 26th to 29th October 2009 , the schools have been invited  to Ramjas School , R.K.Puram  where  Phyllis Bowie will conduct  Training of Trainers for Project Citizen India. Teachers and trainers from various schools and training institutes is attending attend this workshop.

The Prime Minister’s Global Fellowship Programme

We are proud to announce that Ramjas School, R.K.Puram was identified among five schools in Delhi, to participate in “The Prime Minister’s Global Fellowship Programme”.  The partnership programme between India and the British Government has been launched in India for the first time and nurtures outstanding talent and enterprise in young people through international exposure.

Mrs. Rachna Pant - Our Principal

Mrs. Rachna Pant took over as the Principal of Ramjas School, R.K.Puram, New Delhi on Monday, 7th April 2008. Prior to this Mrs. Pant as Director, Academics, had been instrumental in setting up an International School at Bangkok, Thailand.

U.S and Kazaksthan Visitors Report

A seven member  delegation from  United States and a four  member delegation from Kazaksthan  visited  Ramjas School , R.K.Puram .Our School in collaboration with the Centre for Civic Education , California , U.S held a Civic Exchange programme on December 13th  2007. The event was a part of “Project Citizen India” (PCI) initiative .  
The delegation participated in this event . They also attended a special assembly programme in the school on December 14th 2007

UK report

Folklore project in collaboration with UK Droitwich Spa High School saw an exciting start in its 2nd year, with the selection of a new topic. Rachel Thomson, English teacher at Droitwich chose for us the play ’Much Ado About Nothing’ by Shakespeare this year. The project was assigned to all the three sections of class VIII.

Annual Athletic Meet , Ramjas School , R.K.Puram

Ramjas School , R.K.Puram  celebrated its Annual Athletic Meet recently on 23rd January, 2010. The Chief Guest for the day was Ms.Sunita Godara ,Asian Marathon Champion,1992 & Director and Founder of Health & Fitness Trust, New Delhi. Capt. Rajpal Singh,Joint Director, Labour , Employment & Skill Development ,Sport & Youth affairs, FICCI was the Guest of Honor for the day. 

The event was also presided by the Manager of the school  Mr.K.K.Sharma, Principal Ms.Rachna Pant & Mr.Arvind Mishra, Inspector BSF who was  also the judge for the March Past. The highlight of the programme was the March Past competition among the four houses of the school viz.Jupiter , Mercury , Neptune and Venus. The guest encouraged the students with their inspiring words , took the salute for the March Past and also witnessed the 100 mts final . Ms.Rachna Pant , Principal in her speech emphasized on the importance of team work and coordination. The programme ended with the National Anthem.

Step Ahead (2009-2010)

A special assembly programme was presented by the students of Class III and IV to bid farewell to the students of Class V on the 3rd of February, 2010. The programme began with a prayer followed by a song and a dance by the students of class III. The students of class IV presented a token of their love and good wishes in the form of a flower and a card to each student of class V. The Head Boy/Girl, Deputy Head Boy/Girl and the Prefects were given certificates for performing their duties well. The students of Class V thanked their teachers who have taught them by presenting a song.

Mrs. Kumar blessed all the children and wished them luck for their future.

Celebration of Club Day

Ramjas School , R.K.Puram celebrated its Club Day on January 30th 2010. Talents in the  field of music, art, dance , sketching & painting, oratory and life skills , sculpture  were exhibited by the students. Performance by students of various clubs like Yoga, aerobics, taekwando and instrumental clubs were much appreciated by the audience.  The stalls of ‘mehndi’ bangles, traditional toys , clay models ,photograph album, sketching , herbal plants , eatables games, car wash etc. added the elements of fun and festivity to the event.

Inauguration of Science Park

A Science Park was inaugurated on 13th February 2010 in Ramjas School, R.K.Puram. The park has been set up in the school in collaboration with the Rotary Club of Delhi , South East. The programme was presided by Mr.Sanjeev Jawahar , President , Rotary Club,Delhi, South East and the school Principal, Ms.Rachna Pant . The objective  of the Science Park is  to act as a cluster of interactive open air play system , designed to fetch knowledge and create interest in basic science facts. To begin  with there are eight models in the Science Park .On this occasion the Rotary Club presented two supporting scholarships of Rs.5000/- each to two students of Class XII. A cultural programme was also organized.

Farewell 2010

Ramjas School, R.K.Puram, celebrated the farewell  for the batch 2009-10 on 29th January 2010. The  theme for this year’s farewell was ‘Indian Village to Global village’. Principal, Mrs.Rachna Pant welcomed all the out going students and wished them good luck in the forthcoming  Board Exams. Students of Class XI organized a cultural show  which was followed by the Mr & Ms. Ramjas Contest  which stole the show. The students left with fond memories of their school life , to be cherished for life time.

Annual Day Celebrations – 2009- Senior School 

Ramjas School , R.K.Puram  celebrated its 36th Annual day with great enthusiasm . The Chief  Guest  for the occasion  Padmashri Smt.Geeta Chandran ,an exponent of Classical Dance, mesmerized the audience with her prayer renderation  and encouraging words  for the students and parents . Mr.Ram Kanwar Gupta , Chairman and Mr.G.S.Moondra , Hony. Secretary , Ramjas Foundation , Mr.K.K.Sharma , Manager Ramjas School , R.K.Puram , Mr.Harsh Gupta , Member , School Managing Committee , Mr.Sanjeev Jawahar , President , Rotary Club , (South East ) graced the occasion . 

The programme started with the traditional lighting of the lamp and shloka recitation. This was  followed by a group classical dance , Japanese song and choir .The highlight of the programme was the play, ‘Spartacus’  depicting the slave uprising against Roman Republic in 432 B.C .  The play stole the show. 

The Principal , Mrs.Rachna Pant presented the Annual Report highlighting the school academics and co-curricular activities .She also emphasized the need for peace in today’s scenario.

Annual Day Celebrations – 2009- Junior School 

The primary wing of Ramjas School , R.K.Puram celebrated its 36th annual day on November 2009. Maintaining the tradition  of Ramjas culture of maximum  participation from the students , more than  700 students  from Nursery to Class V participated in various cultural programmes. Mrs.Kiron Bhatnager , Deputy Secretary (Drama)  Sangeet Natak Akademi the Chief Guest for the occasion stressed the need for parents to spend quality time with their children .The Principal, Mrs.Rachna Pant  in her address  to the gathering  , assured the parents that their suggestions have been implemented and that  she believed that together the school will reach newer heights. The Head Mistress, Mrs.Alka Kumar through a self composed poem blessed the children. The School Manger Mr.K.K.Sharma graced the occasion .  

The tiny tots of Nursery danced to the tune of’Lakdi ki Kaati ‘while the K.G students looked colourful and vibrant dancing  for  a Rajasthani dance .Classes III to V presented a scintillating gymnastics , aerobics and  yoga performance . Charlie Chaplin dance  was presented  by students of Class III . There were two dances ‘United colors of India and ‘Hindustani’ which depicted India’s rich cultural heritage and diversity .

DynamiX 09

DynamiX ,the computer clan of Ramjas School, R K Puram has been organizing symposiums since the year 2002, and this year was the 8th Annual DynamiX Symposium. The symposium basically aimed at giving the great minds of Delhi schools a platform to develop their skills and to compete against their likes. The event had various events like Programming, Web D, Quiz, Group Discussion, Gaming, Crossword etc. As anticipated the Gaming event was the most popular one with the various participants enjoying the tough competition from other part-time gamers. The Art Event, which required the participants to design a bio-Sync dress which can cater to the needs of human being in the next century, left the judges amazed at the imagination and creativity of the participants. Even the Group Discussion turned out to be hot n’ fiery with participants emphasizing on their points. The event stretched for two days and was attended by the top most schools of Delhi. Towards the end DPS, R K Puram, emerged the Overall winners after performing consistently in almost all the events. The Runner-up trophy was bagged by Mount St. Mary’s School, Delhi Cant. Mrs. Alka S. Kumar, Head Mistress of Ramjas School gave away the prizes to the leading performers. Mrs. Rachna Pant, Principal of the School appreciated the support of the Hindustan Times and The Times of India for providing Special Gifts to the winners. Dreams and Teams Programme

Ramjas School, R.K.Puram, as a part of the Dreams and Teams programme with the partner school Droitwich Spa High, UK participated in the voluntary services in the third Common Wealth Youth Games 2008 held in Pune. Five students were selected from both the schools to go on this trip. Shashwat Dev and Kartikay Khetarpal of class 11th were accompanied by their teachers Mrs Nirmal Lumb (coordinator) & Mr.Manjot Singh.

Investiture Ceremony - Seniors

On the occasion of Independence Day, Ramjas School, R.K.Puram organised the investiture ceremony for the year 2009-10.The head boy, the head girl and the school council was sworn in by the Principal, Mrs Rachna Pant, who also administered the oath of office. The programme included the flag hoisting by the Principal, Mrs Pant followed by a soulful rendition of the Vande Matram by the school choir. Other highlights of the day included – inter house patriotic song competition and rangoli competition.             

Investiture Ceremony - Juniors

The Primary Wing of Ramjas School , R.K.Puram organized its investiture ceremony and Independence Day celebration on 12th Aug,2009. Prefects took their oath  and were sworn  in for  the year 2009-10.  The Principal , the Head Mistress and the teachers pinned the badges for the newly inducted office bearers. This was followed by a small cultural presentation  by students of Classes III, IV and V.

Music Workshop

Mr. Kevin Dowson, Head of Music Department, Droitwich Spa High School, England, conducted a music workshop at Ramjas School, R.K. Puram in which 20 teachers from 14 schools of Delhi and NCR participated. Mr. Dowson gave a presentation on Music in their school curriculum and then highlighted the importance of creativity and composing of music in class room. A practical session with the participants proved his point. The U.K. students were hosted by students of Ramjas, R.K. Puram and the visit promised to forge long lasting bonds.


International Career Fair

In early January, an international career fair was held at our school. Over 23 institutions from all over the world participated in this fair. It also saw the participation of the Canadian Education Network and premier UK institutions like the University of Leeds and London Institution of Technology. Various quizes and games were also organized
